The native Android app loads the live Magic PTT web console with better mic handling, background audio while connected, and hardware PTT key support on rugged phones. The same APK powers normal installs and dedicated kiosk radios.

The Android app is in a closed beta for invited testers. Sign in and open your Dashboard — if you're on the list, open Dashboard on your Android phone for a one-time install slot on mobile Dashboard. Eligible members can apply from Dashboard.

Install steps

  1. On your Android phone, sign in and open Dashboard — download magic-ptt.apk (mobile only; link hides after the native app is installed unless an admin resets it).
  2. When Android warns about unknown apps, open Settings → Install unknown apps and allow your browser or Files app to install APKs.
  3. Tap the downloaded file and confirm install.
  4. Open Magic PTT, sign in with your SHTF Radio Networks account, and connect on PTT.

This is not distributed through Google Play. During the closed beta, reinstall from your Dashboard when a new build is announced.

Self-hosting the APK

Operators mirror magic-ptt.apk and app-version.json on any HTTPS server. See docs/APK-DISTRIBUTION.md in the repo for the publish script and OTA manifest format.
