Live Captions & Translation
Last updated: v2026-06-11 · Operated by DigiDom Advanced Technology
How Magic PTT turns live speech into on-screen captions, and translates them per listener, on channels where captions are enabled.
What live captions do
On channels where an admin has enabled captions, Magic PTT can show a live, TV-style caption of what is being said. Each listener can read the caption in their own preferred language. Captions are a convenience feature layered on top of the live voice; the audio itself is unchanged.
Where the processing happens
- Speech-to-text is performed by Deepgram. When a captioned channel is active, a live copy of the current speaker's audio is streamed to Deepgram to produce a transcript.
- Translation is performed by DeepL. Transcript text may be sent to DeepL so each listener can read it in their chosen language.
See the subprocessors page for how these providers fit into the Service.
What it processes
- The live audio of the person currently transmitting on the channel;
- The speaker's configured language (used to transcribe more accurately) and each listener's preferred language (used to translate);
- The resulting transcript text, shown live to listeners.
What it does not process
- Audio from channels that do not have captions enabled;
- Your chat messages, direct messages, or photos;
- Your account credentials or any payment information.
Limits and accuracy
Automated captions and translations may be inaccurate, delayed, or incomplete, especially with background noise, overlapping speakers, callsigns, jargon, or weak signals. Do not rely on captions or translations for safety-critical or legally significant decisions — always confirm important information by voice. Captions are not an official transcript or record of a transmission.
Your controls
- Captions are off unless an admin enables them for a specific channel;
- You can turn captions on or off for yourself and set your preferred language in your profile/settings;
- Network and room admins control whether captions are available on the channels they manage.
Training and retention
Magic PTT does not use your communications to train its own models. We do not durably store call audio, and transcripts are produced for live display. Deepgram and DeepL process the data we send under their respective API terms and privacy policies; we use API tiers intended for application use rather than model training. For details about a specific provider, see the subprocessors page or contact privacy@magicticket.help.
