Magic Mesh
Magic Mesh Outpost
A 5 W Magic Mesh repeater in a carbon fibre box, for inside your vehicle or your radio room.
The Outpost is a BQ Voyage Station G3, a 5 W LoRa board with its own screen and one-button menu, built into our own carbon fibre enclosure. It comes flashed with Magic Mesh, set up and tested on our bench, with its Station G3 license. Put it in your vehicle, or indoors at the foot of your tower with a coax cable up to the antenna, and it repeats for the radios around it, with a fan that switches itself on and off with the board's temperature. It is an indoor box: the antenna goes outside, the Outpost stays in.
Its own screen, through the box
The Station G3's 1.3 inch screen shows the Outpost's name, its link, what it heard and what it passed on, and a one-button menu for its settings. Left alone for five minutes, it runs the Magic Mesh screen saver you see here: a turning galaxy, a warp of stars with MAGIC MESH flying out at you, and MAGIC MESH gliding through the stars. This is the real one, drawn dot for dot from the Outpost's own firmware.

The Outpost, built
- The Outpost: a BQ Voyage Station G3 in our carbon fibre enclosure, set up and tested on our bench
- Magic Mesh firmware on it, with its Station G3 license
- The 5 V fan and its switch module, fitted and wired
The enclosure alone
- The carbon fibre tray and its two lids
- The screen bezel and the menu plunger
- Eight brass threaded inserts, already set
- Every screw it takes
- With the fan, for Magic Mesh firmware users only: the 5 V fan and its switch module (an AOD4184 module), fitted and wired
- Without the fan, $15.00 less: everything above but the fan and its switch module, for a Station G3 on other firmware
You bring your own Station G3. With the fan, you solder a pin header into the board's U7 holes for it; the fan is switched by Magic Mesh firmware only. Running stock MeshCore or Meshtastic? Take it without the fan.
Good to know before you order
- Ready to ship, then pre-orderAn Outpost on the shelf ships now; the buy box says how many are there. Once the shelf is empty, every order is a pre-order: paid now, built and tested in order, and shipped as each one is done.

- Built for inside a vehicle or a radio roomAn indoor box: it is vented so the fan can move air, so it is not for outdoors. For a tower, mount it inside and run coax to the antenna. Two hanging holes in the floor take wall screws.
- The enclosure aloneMade to order for the Station G3 you already have, with the fan or without it. With the fan, you solder a pin header into the board's U7 holes for it; the switch module is worked by Magic Mesh firmware only. On stock MeshCore or Meshtastic nothing switches the fan, so take it without.
A repeater that goes where you go
- MeshCore: a repeater on your regional network. It passes along the messages it hears so they reach farther.
- Meshtastic: it passes Meshtastic traffic along as well.
- Behind the seats of a truck, or in the shack with coax to a tower antenna: the 5 W board reaches past what a handheld can.
Everything you need, reachable through the box
- The board's screen shows through a window in the lid, framed by its own bezel.
- The menu button is worked through the box with a plunger, so the board's one-button menu is at your fingertip with the lids on.
- USB-C and the power socket are reachable from outside, and the antenna jack (SMA) is at the end.
A fan that looks after itself
- A 5 V fan inside blows across the board's heatsink and out through the vents.
- It switches on when the board warms and off again when it cools, worked by Magic Mesh from the board itself through a small switch module.
Coming: a gateway to Magic PTT over Starlink
- Next for the Outpost: tie the radios it hears to Magic PTT over Starlink, wherever it is parked. Coming, not built yet.
The Station G3 can transmit at up to about 5 W, far more than a handheld. Its transmit power is set in Magic PTT or on its own menu, and the power, the antenna and where you use it are your choice and your responsibility: check what is allowed where you operate. A high-power radio needs its antenna connected before it is switched on. Magic PTT is not responsible for how the radio is set up or used.
