Already have a board? Put Magic Mesh on it yourself.
A board license lets you run Magic Mesh, our own firmware, on one board that you own. With it, one board takes part in both the MeshCore and the Meshtastic networks, and links your area to every other Magic Mesh place through Magic PTT.
A board license is a license for our firmware. It is not a radio operator's license: no radio license is required.
It works on these boards only
- · Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V4, the 863 to 928 MHz version
- · Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V4-R8, the 863 to 928 MHz version
Nothing else. Not the V3 or older, not the T114, not the Wireless Tracker, and not any other maker's board, even one that looks the same. The flasher checks the board before it writes and stops if it is not one of these, but check what you have before you pay: a license bought for the wrong board does not make it work.
What your board does with it
- Text radio to radio on MeshCore and Meshtastic from one board, with no cell service and no internet.
- Magic Mesh Global: on Wi-Fi the board links your area to every other linked place through Magic PTT.
- One inbox in Magic PTT for all three networks, on your computer and on your phone.
- A radar of every radio your board hears, and Look around: one press asks who is in range and shows how well each radio hears you.
- New firmware arrives over Wi-Fi with one press. No cable, and it goes back by itself if an update does not work.

You will sign in to Magic PTT first, so the license lands on your account. The license box on the Magic Mesh page has the buy button and the board license terms, which you agree to before you pay.

Good to know before you buy
- Flashing Magic Mesh locks the board for goodAt its first start the board encrypts itself, so the firmware cannot be copied off it. After that it cannot be put back to the software it came with, a backup cannot be written back to it, and other flashing tools no longer work on it. It keeps taking Magic Mesh updates.
- Flashing is at your own riskFlashing replaces the software on your board. If the cable is pulled, the power drops or the computer sleeps partway through, the board can be left unable to start. It is your board and you flash it yourself, so that risk is yours. We do not replace or repair a board you flashed.
- It is done in Magic PTT DesktopYou flash and link the board over a USB cable in Magic PTT Desktop, on a Windows or Linux computer. After that it is managed from any device.
- A Magic PTT membership is neededNot included. Magic Mesh is managed from Magic PTT, so you need a membership to use it.
- A used license cannot be returnedA license is for firmware, so it cannot be returned once it has been used on a board.
